March 21, 2001

In honor of Women's History Month, the Contra Costa Commission for Women and the Board of Supervisors are proud to announce the Women's Hall of Fame for 2001.  It will be held at the Pleasant Hill Community Recreation Center, 320 Civic Drive, Pleasant Hill, CA 94520 from 6:00 pm until 9:30 pm (map provided). Our theme this year is Rosie the Riveter, in honor of the new Rosie the Riveter WW II Home Front National Historical Park in Richmond, CA.  We are honored to have as our Keynote Speaker, Ms. Judy Hart, the first superintendent at the Women's Rights National Historical Park in Seneca Falls, who was recently named the first superintendent of the Rosie the Riveter WWII Home Front National Historical Park in Richmond, CA.  The event is $40.00 per person.  Limited seats are available, so make your payment and reservations early to guarantee your place at this exciting event. Musical inspiration will be provided by the Richmond African Methodist Episcopal (RAME) Inspirational Choir directed by Gregory Gaines. Catering is being provided by Food with Love, Gourmet Catering, located in Pleasant Hill, CA (925-933-9740). Video production and presentation will be provided by Mr. Floyd Conner.  The house sets 300 people and we are expecting to sell out.  Please get your reservations in early.

The Board of Supervisors established the Women’s Hall of Fame on October 28, 1997 to recognize women who have made significant contributions to Contra Costa County. The Board and Commission acknowledge that Contra Costa County is long overdue in honoring outstanding women. "This is an excellent opportunity to praise Contra Costa women for their accomplishments and impact on our community", stated Wanda Harris, co-Chair Women's Hall of Fame, Contra Costa Commission for Women.

Our MC for the evening is the talented KTVU Channel 2 reporter, Ms. Traci Mitchell.  Although Ms. Mitchell joined KTVU in March 2000, she has been appearing on Fox 2 since 1997, as a Political Correspondent in KTVU's Bureau in Washington, D.C.  Now Ms. Mitchell is the Lead Reporter for the new 6 O'Clock News for Channel 2.  Her television career started 10 years ago as a News Reporting Fellow for WCVB in Boston.  From there she moved to West Virginia to anchor and report for WOWK TV, then to North Carolina to work for WGHP TV.  Ms. Mitchell grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana.  She graduated from the American University in Washington, D.C. and she also attended the University of London.

We are privileged to have as our Honorary Chair, Ms. Eunice Azzani.  Ms. Azzani is a Managing Director in the San Francisco office of Korn/Ferry International and is a seasoned consultant with over 18 years of experience in professional service organizations. She serves on several boards including the boards of Alumnae Resources, the City Club of San Francisco, Commonwealth Club of California, Planned Parenthood Golden Gate, the Needle Exchange Board for the San Francisco AIDS Foundation, and Women's Forum West.  She was the 1999 Chair of the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce.  In 1995 Ms. Azzani received the Women Who Make A Difference Award from the San Francisco Commission on the Status of Women.  She earned a MLS from Texas Woman's University and a BA from Texas Tech University.

We had relaxing and entertaining lunch at Liberty Hotel Restaurant in Pittsburg, CA. The lunch was served in the beautiful atmosphere of the converted hotel.  We had the place to ourselves.  Over 35 women joined us to celebrate Women's Equality Day!

Ms. Melodee Parker, a performance artist, entertained us in the retelling of the story and life of Nellie Bly. Ms. Parker took us on a journey of the life and experiences of Nellie Bly.  It was an education and inspiration.  We were honored with the presence of Supervisor Donna Gerber, Mayor Mary Rocha of Antioch, and Mayor Millie Greenberg of Danville.  Most everyone else was able to bring someone special in their lives and it was a most enjoyable time.  We were able to make a contribution of the left over food to the local Antioch shelter.
