What's New

The 2010 Women's Hall of Fame Awards Dinner will be held on Thursday, March 18, 2010 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Concord, CA 94520. The keynote speaker will be Barbara Bentley, author of A Dance With The Devil. Click here for the press release. Congratulations to the 2010 inductees, who will be honored at the dinner:

  • Women Demonstrating Leadership: The Honorable Nancy Parent - Councilmember, City of Pittsburg
  • Women Creating Community: Rona Renner, R.N. - Founder of Interactive Parenting Media and Host of Childhood Matters
  • Women Preserving the Environment: Ruth Bancroft - Founder, The Ruth Bancroft Garden
  • Women Contributing to the Arts: Claudia Nemir - civic arts leader, activist, and philanthropist

Individual tickets are $75 each and may be purchased online via paypal by pressing our Donate! button -- just note that your donation is for tickets and specify whether or not you would like a vegetarian meal.

Commission meetings
Meetings are held monthly, generally on the third Tuesday of the month, at Supervisor Bonilla's Office, 2151 Salvio Street, Suite R, Concord, California. The public is invited to attend the meetings.

International Women's Day
International Women's Day fell on March 8, 2009, the Commission hosted a panel discussion before the March 5, 2009 showing of A Powerful Noise in Pleasant Hill. Vice Mayor Karen Mitchoff of Pleasant Hill welcomed the crowd of 70. Commission Co-Chairs Carlyn Obringer and Deborah Dias introduced panelists from local nonprofits who discussed the impact of the economic crisis on women in Contra Costa County. Special thanks to volunteer photographer Rebecca Barrett, whose photos are posted here.

Our Purpose...

The Commission was formed to educate the community and advise the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors on issues relating to the changing social and economic conditions of women in the County, with particular emphasis on the economically disadvantaged....

Current Membership...
The Contra Costa County Commission for Women has a minimum of 15 members and not more than 25 members. The membership is broadly representative of racial, ethnic, age, religious affiliation, gender, and sexual orientation of the community at large. Members are appointed for fixed and staggered terms by the County Board of Supervisors.
